It's Karen back again…and I'd love to show you how to create a simple decoupage wall art. There are many breathtaking napkin designs that can be used to inspire beautiful home décor items. Alternatively, it is possible to buy a finished piece that fits your style that you can then embellish with carefully chosen Dew Drops. As most Dew Drops are transparent, they can easily be placed over nearly any background color for added shades of nuanced color. The hardest part is knowing when to stop adding more Dew Drops to your project. Be bold…be brave and make some 'one of a kind' artwork for your home. Don't forget to share your creations with us on our Facebook Fan Page: The Crafty Nest.
(FYI: Some of my future projects coming in October & November will include items where I embellish a store bought Halloween decoration & Autumn themed wall art. Stay tuned...)
Petunia Dew Drops
Directions:
1. Use a craft knife to remove the center panel of the canvas artwork to reveal the light set. This is necessary so that the lights will shine through only a thin layer of napkin.
2. Open the napkin and carefully separate the extra plain layers. Adhere a piece of acetate to cover the opening in the canvas to provide extra support for the napkin.
3. Use a large foam brush to apply a thin coat of Decoupage Medium to the acetate. Next, apply the napkin to the wet medium and quickly apply Decoupage Medium over the top of the napkin. Work on a small 3x3" section of napkin at a time so that you attach the napkin before the medium dries.
TIP: As the napkin gets saturated, it will become increasingly fragile so be extra gentle when brushing over the napkin. It is advisable to use a tapping motion rather than rubbing.
4. Take the napkin that extends past the edge and fold it over to adhere to the outer edge of the canvas.
5. Select a variety of shades of Dew Drops in different sizes that match the colors in your design. As Dew Drops are transparent, the color underneath them will enhance and deepen the color. Use a variety of sizes and colors to best fill the space.
6. Move 3-4 Dew Drops aside and apply dots of liquid adhesive sparingly. Then reposition each Dew Drop over a spot of glue. Attach the Dew Drops close together nearly touching and continue adding until you are satisfied.
TIP: When selecting a napkin design be sure to open the napkin to check whether the pattern is repeated on all four panels. Some napkins only have a design on the front alone leaving 75% of the napkin plain.
