Forest Mini Book

Here's a rustic mini book I made as a thank you gift for one of the Dad's in my Cub Scout Den. We still have another year of the boys to be Webelos, but I just wanted to show my appreciation of how he helps me as a 'Un-official' assistant. He loves the outdoors so I thought he and his family might like this!

 The mini book was inspired by some coasters from a restaurant. I simply traced the coaster onto a sheet of chipboard and cut out. The book  measures 5"x 3 ½".

 I colored these lodge cutouts tags with watercolors and let dry, then punched holes at the top for the ribbon.
 

 For the ribbons, I cut pieces of muslin ½" x 5".
I wet my fingers and twisted the fabric. Then I used my fingernails to fray the edges.

 I started the pages off with the green cardstock,  then began placing the decorative papers, tags and stickers. I folded down the corners of the forest tree paper to show its elegant backside and give the impression of  photo corners.

 The compass papers were only glued at the bottom and sides so the top would open to create a pocket. The stamped images were colored in with watercolors and added with foam tape.

 

 The plaid design is one side and the stripes..the other side of the same paper.

 I distressed the edges of the book pages first with black ink, then with inka gold.

 There is plenty of room for wallet sized photos of their favorite day hike or camping trip.

I made the rings from double gold wire then covered the bumpy parts of the wire with the muslin ribbon.

 I added a little color to the ribbon with some watercolor.

For the cover, I added the forest clippies, birch tree straw, fabric, washi tape and dew drops.
