Painting the Roses Red Card

Hello Crafty Friends,
It's Karen and I am here today to share my Alice in Wonderland inspired card. I'm not a huge fan of the story but when I saw these little card soldiers I had to use them.  I couldn't actually remember the plot very well and didn't know why the card soldiers were carrying paint brushes and buckets.  A little online research informed me that white roses were planted by mistake in the garden and the Queen of Hearts demanded red roses.  I hope you follow me down the rabbit hole and enjoy a little creative adventure.  Grab your bucket of red paint and let's go!

The Robin's Nest Supplies:

Directions:
1. Attach pattern paper to the card base to create a background for the garden scene. To create a realistic horizon, tear a strip of green paper and adhere it along the bottom edge to ground the characters.

2. Stamp the characters and color them in with watercolor pencils and markers. Cut them out and set aside.

3. Stamp various size rose images onto scraps of white cardstock. Use a red marker to color them. Shade them in such a way as they appear to be dripping with wet red paint. Carefully, cut them out too and set aside.

4. Die cut a small tree with brown cardstock. Trim the trunk to create a bush and adhere the roses to it. Tuck in short 2-3" lengths of leaf trim to add texture to the rose bush. Create a planter for the base of the rose bush.

5. Add the two characters to each side of the rose bush. Use foam tape underneath the paint cans for added dimension.

6. Next, add Red Tear Drops scattered around the rose bush to look like drips of wet paint.

7. Finally, complete the Queen of Heart's rose garden by making the card suits with Dew Drops. Use a black marker to add the stems to the Spade and Club emblem. Adhere the card suit emblems to the edge of the planter.

Heart - 1 Red Diamond & 2 Red Tear Drops
Diamond - 4 Red Diamonds
Spade - 2 Black Tear Drops & 1 Black Diamond
Club - 3 Black Tear Drops

TIP: All the suit emblems can easily be made for poker playing friends
or Las Vegas themed scrapbook layouts.
