Sad Girl- How to use one Tear Drop for Effect

Hi crafty friends!  Mary here on the Chattering Robins blog for The Robin's Nest, with a tutorial using Goldenberry Dew Drops and Sea Glass Tear Drops to make a beautiful finish to this Sad Girl Canvas.

I started off by gluing down tissue wrap to my 5x7 canvas with matte medium.  I was not to careful about wrinkles because the add texture.

I wanted warm translucent colors for the background, so I chose high flow acrylics in magenta, red, yellow and Nickel Azo Gold. I dripped them onto the canvas, sprayed with water, and swirled the paints around with a paint brush.  I let the paint drip down, too.

I wanted the tissue wrap to show through more, so I blotted the whole canvas with a tissue.

I grabbed one of my faces stencils and pushed black gesso through with a makeup sponge.

To add even more texture, I grabbed a busy stencil and scraped texture medium through it with a palette knife, making sure I didn't cover the girl with any of the medium.

I wanted more pink/magenta and less orange so I sponged magenta and white over the texture medium after it was good and dry.

Time for the face painting!

She looks like a zombie at first, but I promise with some patience, paint and attention to detail, she looks much more human. I added shadows under her eyes and around the bridge of her nose and under her chin.

I wanted the raised areas to stand out, so I rubbed lightly over the areas with gold paint, which I think goes very well with the pinks!

I painted her dress and made her eyes and lips a little more realistic.

I used Tear Drops and Dew Drops for the finishing touch, on the background, for her necklace, and one lone tear, because she is a Sad Girl. I glued them down with strong glue so they would stay put.

I added a little design to her outfit with a gold gel pen and made her cheeks rosy with a marker.

Here are some close ups of the finished project!

Thanks for sticking with me!  I hope you liked this project and decide to make a Sad Girl of your own!
