Crafting for Good - a sweet & special craft for the NICU

Hello and welcome to the blog today.  Shelly here sharing a special project I created for our local hospital's NICU (neonatal intensive care unit).

My sister volunteers at the NICU and one the tasks is to create "crib cards" for the babies in the unit. Crib cards are simply cards that list baby name, birth date, and birth stats - they are put in a plastic protector and hung on the outside of crib.  The crib cards made by the volunteers are fun & fanciful - creating a little bit of cheer in a stressful situation.

My sister mentioned that the craft supplies provided were a little.... lacking... so I immediately decided to create some crib cards to donate, along with a box of fun crafting supplies.

To create these crib cards I used:

Boy Card:

Getaway Glitter Cardstock (cut to 5 x 7)
Khaki Glitter Cardstock (cut to 4 x 6)
Dino Rub Ons
Dew Drops - assorted sizes

Girl Card:

Princess Glitter Cardstock
Glitter Crown Cardstock
Baby Girls - Little Friends
Gerber Cardstock Sticker (cut in half)
Dew Drops - assorted sizes

For Both:

White Cardstock (2 - cut to 3 x 5)
Ink (for edging paper)

  • Ink all edges of cut cardstock
  • Layer and glue your cardstock pieces
  • Layer and glue your embellishments

  • I applied the rub-ons to white cardstock, cut out and attached pop dots for some added dimension

A pretty simple project, but one that will bring a smile to a worried parent's face.  I plan on creating at least half dozen completed cards to drop off with craft supplies.

Hope you are inspired to craft for the good!

Have a creative weekend!!
