Make this Creepy Creaky China Cabinet for Halloween--Part One

In my kitchen I have a floor-to-ceiling distressed white hutch that I religiously decorate for each season. For Halloween I fill it with fun mid-century Halloween items. The only problem is, the decorations, along with the painted white cabinet, are so darn-tootin' cheerful, that they are not a bit spooky.

Hi, I'm veteran design team member Betsy Skagen of Paper Calliope. When I saw the China Cabinet from Gina's Designs, I just knew I could make a miniature hutch that included spooky Halloween colors and creepy crawly doo-dads, yet still sport some fun mid-century graphics.

Tutorial to make the Halloween China Cabinet

Begin by attaching the striped side of Plum Fleur and Purple Bats Glitter Cardstock to the china cabinet back with a matte medium. Leave a narrow gap where the shelving will connect. Trim the curved top with a utility blade.

Adhere Plum Purple Glitter Cardstock, Spiderweb Glitter Cardstock and Light purple cardstock to the top and bottom of the shelves with a matte medium.

Adhere Plum Fleur to both inside and outside side pieces of the cabinet with a matte medium.

For the inside drawer sides, adhere the stripe side of Plum Fleur. Glue light purple cardstock to the inside drawer base. Adhere Black Bats Glitter Cardstock to the outside drawer sides and adhere Purple Bats Glitter Cardstock to the outside front of the drawers. Seal the front of the drawers with a gloss medium.

Use a matte medium to adhere Purple Crackle Glitter Cardstock to the outside front doors of the cabinet and trim with a utility blade. Finally, adhere black cardstock to the back of the cabinet and the inside of the front doors. Trim with a utility blade.

Assemble cabinet, starting from the inside and working out. Hot glue pieces in place. Adhere decorative Halloween ribbons to shelving edges with adhesive.

Come back tomorrow for Part Two of making the Creep Creaky China Cabinet for Halloween!
