Bright days ahead

It's time to ring in the new year. My headline may read Bright Days Ahead, but there's a bit of tearful sniffling going on behind the scenes. I'm Betsy Skagen of Paper Calliope and the reason I am sniffling is because today I am writing my last post as a Robin's Nest Design Team member.

I have had a fantastic couple of years here at the Robin's Nest. While I am going to miss the camaraderie of the team, I know I will continue to use the wonderful Robin's Nest materials in my projects. This handcrafted calendar was particularly fun because I got to play with so many papers and embellishments.

Tutorial How to Make the 2016 Desktop Calendar

Step 1: Begin by making the star book by cutting three sheets of 12" x 12" white cardstock in half. Trim each rectangle to 6" x 9 1/2". Make a vertical score line to divide each rectangle in half.

Step 2: Adhere cardstock back to back to create star book. Trim any uneven edges.

Step 3: Cut one 5 1/2" x 4 3/8" rectangle from each of the following papers: Classic Roses Cardstock, Valentine Hearts Cardstock, Glitter Belgian Cardstock, Edelweiss Cardstock, Bees Blue Linen Cardstock, Saffron Honey Cardstock, Star Border Glitter Cardstock, Tulip Wheels Cardstock, Men's Paisley Cardstock, Leaf Glitter Cardstock, Pinecone Cardstock and Winter Retreat Glitter Cardstock. Ink edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Adhere one of these rectangles to each page of book.

Step 4: Print each calendar month of 2016 calendar. I placed the calendar I created on my blog and you are welcome to download it from Paper Calliope. If you prefer, you can Google to find many other free calendars on the internet.

Step 5: Trim calendar to 3 3/4" x 2 1/2". Ink edges of each calendar month with Black Soot Distress Ink. Adhere each month to lower half of each page.

Here's a breakdown of how I made each page.

January: Cut the Bench Tag from the Crimson Sticker set into a square shape. Ink edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Adhere to January page, slightly overlapping the calendar.

February: Die cut hearts from Numbers Glitter Cardstock and Red Classic Swirl Glitter Cardstock. Trim one of the smaller hearts so it is slightly smaller. Ink edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Layer the hearts and adhere to February page. Hand cut a tiny heart from one of the coordinating papers and adhere to bottom of calendar.

March: Die cut rabbit and ribbon from Brown Glitter Cardstock and Peach Glitter Cardstock. Outline rabbit on background Belgian Cardstock with a white oil pastel. Use a sponge to blend into the paper.

Adhere rabbit and ribbon to page, slightly overlapping calendar.

April: Adhere Azure Bike Die Cut to page.

May: Ink edges of watering can graphic. Adhere to page, overlapping calendar. Adhere bee sticker to bottom of calendar.

June: Adhere the You Make Me Happy...Saffron Card to page, overlapping the calendar.

July: Die cut starbursts from Brilliant Blue Glitter Cardstock, Baby Blue Glitter Cardstock and White Cardstock. Hand cut stars from Red Glitter Cardstock. Use a scissors to alter two silver Winter Snowflakes Glitter Chipboard pieces to create stars.

Layer all and adhere to page,

August: Attach vellum quote to backside of Valentine Hearts Cardstock with small brad. Adhere both to page, overlapping calendar. Add canoe and paddle stickers.

September: Die cut globe from Teal Waters Glitter Cardstock, Brilliant Blue Glitter Cardstock and backside of Valentine Hearts Cardstock. Layer and ink edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Adhere globe to page, overlapping calendar.

October: Die cut leaves from Burgandy Glitter Cardstock, Copper Glitter Cardstock and Orange Crackle Glitter Cardstock. Layer and adhere to page, overlapping calendar.

November: Die cut deer from Brown on Brown Glitter Cardstock. Adhere Saffron Doily and deer to page, overlapping calendar.

December: Die cut snowflake from Brown on Brown Glitter Cardstock. Fold and glue together with hot glue. Die cut snowflake center from Blue Flower. Adhere center to snowflake and glue snowflake to page.
